How do you want to see yourself as 5 years down the line? As a leader? As a follower? As someone who carves his own path or as someone who aspires to take someone else’s empire forward? Each aspiration as has a story behind it. It is the stories that influence you. In order to bring a change at work, tell a different story to yourself and then see its magic.
Now raise this question to yourself: Is giving a second thought to that storytelling going to have a negative or positive influence on you and on your life? What would happen to you if stories with certain amendments were not told to you? Would you have been a different person? Or has that story impacted you?
Human beings are someone who always crave coherence. As per a research report, the most powerful method that our brains produce is coherence which usually happens unconsciously with story-telling, “By knitting along our internal expertise and what we have as a tendency to observe in our surroundings, it is an automatic method of narration that explains why we have a tendency to do things a certain way.” These actions are the result of the repeated narration of those stories to ourselves, such that they become our own reality. And whereas it is quite troublesome to allow us to get freed from those stories, it is typically necessary to rewrite them.
For instance, if you go to work daily thinking that you co-workers don’t like you and they disregard your ideas of assignment writing, every action of theirs will appear to you like that only. There is a great possibility that they not at all intend to do so, but since your brain has this pre-conceived notion, it interprets their every action in that way only. A shift within the narrative you tell yourself might bring a change to your own perspective. A different story that you tell yourself will bring a change into your work life. Suddenly with its impact, you will notice that they aren’t bad anymore and that they do not disregard your ideas rather they have better ones to be put into action. It is all the matter of your own perspective. It is the matter of the thoughts and storytelling of your own mind that makes you think only in a particular direction. Repeating a chain of thoughts again and again becomes a reality by virtue of your own storytelling. It is very important to bring change into your own perspective so as to bring change in your life. This change in perspective can only be brought by changing the narrative of your storytelling.
Once you’ve established the problems and therefore the underlying story that’s limiting you, “the next step is to contemplate what you’d prefer to amend and the way you aspire your story would shift so as to assist you through the transition,” You may retain some parts of your old story as foundations cannot be changed, but always remember that perspectives can. Good luck!
